Pookie tells a joke now. Well….not really a joke…but something that he says because he knows its funny. Funny to the other person, not funny just to him. Most of his echolalia is things he thinks are funny. But this is something he says because the other person thinks its funny and he is having a funny conversation. In his self-centered world, its the closest thing he has to a joke. Its a time when he cares what our response is. He doesn’t do it every time, so we know its not just a memorized script.
Ready? Here it is:
Beagoodmom: “GoodNight Pookie.”
Pookie: “GoodNight. Dad!”
Beagoodmom: “What!?! I am not Dad! GoodNight Pookie.”
Pookie: “GoodNight MmmmmmmmDad!”
Pure comedy.

That’s great! Good joke Pookie!
Ha! That’s great! My son with autism who is 4 started that same “joke” a few months ago. And he thinks it is SO super funny (and it is!) He says “Goodnight ____” with whatever person’s name he can think of (and sometimes food items as well). LOL
