We are always looking for examples of times Pookie seems to be 100% in the game, not repeating what he heard someone else say, not saying what he thinks we want to hear, but really understanding his words and what they mean. Saying things because they convey his meaning and what he really wants to say.
“No, I don’t want to go to school today.”
He clearly knows what this means. He said it to me Friday morning when I woke him up for school. Completely unprompted. I had not said a word about school. He knew he was tired. He knew he had to get up. Why did he have to get up? Because it was time for school. How could he avoid getting up? He could NOT go to school! A brilliant thought process!
I did not let him do it. But I was strangely proud of him for trying it. I could just see the gears turning in his head. The had a problem and he came to a solution. It did not work, but it was a brilliant hypothesis.
Our little thinker.

Way to go Pookie!
Next thing you know, he’ll be driving and saying things like “Gee mom, I really don’t know how that scratch got there, because I was inside studying diligently.”
