Answer to the Pookie Quiz

Pookie has not learned to tie his shoes yet. In fact, like most modern Kindergarteners, he wears velcro shoes, slip-on loafers and sandals and thinks shoes with laces are the anomaly.

He did not slap the teachers aide on the heiney and say “That’ll teach ya!”. But he has taken to saying “come on baby!”…but not in a creepy sort of way at all. Sort of in a 1950’s Greaser Do-Wop sort of way. I think its part of a lyric from “Chantilly Lace” by The Big Bopper.

He did eat the teacher’s breakfast off her desk when she was not looking. It was pumpkin bread and he loves it. He is generally a pretty trustworthy boy; if I left him alone in a room with a plate of brownies he is more likely to bring me the plate and ask me for one than to eat them without asking. But he does love Pumpkin Bread, and he has skipped breakfast a few days this week. He has been struggling with the morning routine and sometimes cannot seem to get started eating. He’ll just sit there in front of his oatmeal or english muffin, staring at it. But, then again…he is 5… and its 6:25 in the morning. So, he was probably very hungry that day. The really ironic part is that the prior day, one of his echolalic phrases was “Stay away from my desk, Morganna. Morganna, stay away from my desk.” Which means that Pookie must have heard his teacher tell Morganna to stay away from her desk a dozen times one day. Then the next day Pookie does it….AND….eats her breakfast.

He did not tear up a copy of “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” by Eric Carle and tape it around the room. But if he did, I would not blame him. That guy makes some seriously beautiful illustrations. Did you know he founded the Musuem of Childrens Picture Book Art? Man, I would love to go there. One of the reasons I prefer the fancy schmancy children’s books over those stupid “Lightening McQueen goes to the Dentist” or “Blue’s Lost Dog Collar” books is the great art.

Oh dear! Was the teacher mad? I agree with you about the children’s books. Every time I see a classroom full of “magenta loses a tooth” or “wonderpets jump off a cliff” I want to screech.
