Our Trip to the Water Park

We went to a park district pool/water park on Saturday….lots of fun! It was big enough for fun, but not so big that we were overwhelmed. One of the best parts was that Geetle thought it was all her idea. We had won 1/2 price coupons for the park at her school’s raffle weeks ago. I had hung them on the fridge, saying that we would go someday. Thursday night, she started hinting, which for a 4 year old is not very subtle. BAGD and I talked about it on the sly, checked the weather report and decided to do it. Geetle kept on hinting, getting even more blatant, yet still not pushy or whiney. Finally, Friday night we told her that it sounded like a fun idea and that we would go. She was very excited!

So, Saturday morning she got up early and started getting ready. She fussed about which towels to take and where was the sunscreen bottle. She asked us if we knew how to get there. She reminded us to take the coupons off the fridge. Once in the car, after we confirmed the “number” of the road we were going to take, she looked for the road sign out the window. When we turned on to the road which also takes us to Grandma’s house, she got worried. But we explained that this road was also part of the way to get to the water park. Once at the park, she told us all the things she wanted to do. But soon she was so busy having fun that she let BAGD and I be in charge.

BAGD took the kids on the lazy river. You would think that would be the perfect attraction for a 7month pregnant woman, but NO. I got in the inner tube, but 4 feet down the lazy river and I knew my back would not make it, so they went with out me. Then he and I watched them do the Kiddie Water slides all by themselves. We tried the wave pool, which Pookie LOVED! At the end of the day, BAGD took each kid down the water tube ride one at a time. I sat on a bench with the other one, eating snacks.

On the way home we stopped at the gas station and the kids got another snack. Geetle kept asking “what can I have?” We told her “anything you want.” She looked skeptical (apparently remembering that the only gas station snacks we generally allow are granola bars and pretzels). In the end, she got a Little Debbie Zebra Cake (380 calories, in case you never checked) and was very excited. Pookie was also awe-struck by the choices. First he picked a package of cookies, then he wanted a Zebra Cake, then he saw the chocolate donuts (400 calories…we have a winner!). The each also drank a pint of milk. They must have worked up an appetite at the water park.

It was a great day. We were amazed at how grown up our babies have become. They were not afraid to do the kiddie water slides (which were for ages 4-10, so pretty significant for a 4 year old). They liked the wave pool and were not intimidated by the large number of people in the pool. They each waited in line 25 minutes for a 25 second water tube ride with BAGD. When it was time to go, they followed us to the locker room and got dressed. As we were walking to the car BAGD said to me ” I like taking our kids places.” I do too.

We took a waterproof disposable camera to the park. I am just mailing it to Snapfish for developing. I will post some pictures soon.
