Pookie- trip to Museum with BAGD. Total fun.
Geetle- school friend’s birthday party. Total fun.
Giggles- got to go to the party, got worn out, came home and threw up mandarin oranges.
Pookie ends day by declaring Dad to be more fun than Mom. Literally.
Geetle ends the day watching SpongeBob in our bed, trying to come down from the party.
Giggles has not ended the day yet, sleeping restlessly, upchucked a little at 8:30 again.
BAGD said Pookie had such fun at the museum because he got to be in charge and go wherever he wanted. Also the museum has tons of buttons to push. When they go home I asked him what he did at the museum and he told me they ate Spaghetti for lunch and saw a train. They saw alot more, but I will take that for an answer. Geetle did not want to stay at the birthday party without me, so I stayed. But she ignored me and I ignored her, so I think we made some growth towards “friend party independence” today. I was pleased with how she managed herself at the party. She played with some girls she had not meet before. I am sorry Giggles is sick. I should have known it was coming. She was very cuddly all afternoon and even fell asleep in my lap at the party. But I was enjoying the snuggliness so much that I did not stop to think what it meant.
At the party, I chitchatted with another mother. She is very nice, very funny. But I was shocked that she had NO basic knowledge of what autism is. (Pookie came up in conversation as he often does, since they are twins, and the next question is always “Oh, is he in another class?” uh-huh. “why”…..) I guess those “awareness” campaigns are really worth it. Most people seem to have some basic knowledge of the issue, but this mother did not. I had to start at the beginning. She was genuinely interested in learning more about autism. But I was surprised she had no basic knowledge to start with. I have not met anyone else in that situation….or at least anyone who would admit it.
Oh, and I have new polar fleece bedsheets. Trying them out tonite.
That is all.
End of day.

You know, I have been surprised as well at how many people really don’t know anything at all about autism. I had thought it was sort of like diabetes, you might not understand how it works, but you know what it does.
