We met the new puppy tonite. Lucy the red cocker spaniel. She is 7 weeks old and belongs to Mamaw AND Papaw.
We like pets, or so we think. Sometimes we get intimidated and freaked out. So, we were not sure what to expect. We brought Giggles’ cuddle things (her bikini bunny and Tinkerbell blanket, seen in the third picture of this post.) As it turns out, Giggles likes puppies. She was curious about the dog, how fast it moved, how it seemed to follow her, how it had alot of delicious looking toys, etc. She touched Lucy a few times and was generally impressed.

Notice how Giggles and Lucy have the same hair color. Clairol 523, Sunny Nutmeg.

Geetle KNEW she would like the dog, and she was right. The first thing she did was give her the Turkey Leg toy, which she explained had a special feature. Its true, it did. Before we wrapped it, Geetle rubbed the toy all over a (wrapped) log of Summer Sausage, so “it smells like meat!” Lucy seemed happy with it either way.

Right off the bat, Pookie was NOT interested in Lucy at all. He wanted to go in the basement and paint, so he did. Then we had dinner and a quick bath. Once the kids were in their pajamas and we were 30 minutes or so from going home, Pookie asked if he could “feed the dog.” Mamaw and Papaw said yes….and that’s when the real party started.

Pookie became very interested in feeding her, one kibble at a time. He said they were “doggie M&Ms” and made her take them from his hand. She obeyed. He told her “eat up!” and “time to feed the animals.” When she would scoot away to chew each piece, he would gently steer her back to the dish, so he could give her another. She did not nip or growl at him. He laid down next to the dish to see her chew. I think they went thru this about a dozen times.

At the very end, when Geetle was back from the tub, she joined in and Giggles watched and hooted.
You’re a good dog Lucy. I hope you like this sort of thing. They will be back in a week or so. And now they know you will eat dog food like M&Ms, one at a time.

Too cute! Looks like a fun time was had by all! It’s really good that she (Lucy) is being exposed to children so early, my dog likes everyone, she is just pretty timid around kids because they can move so fast and might pull ears a little too hard, we didn’t get her until she was about 6 months old, (she’s 7 now) so I guess she just didn’t get a chance to be exposed early. She would probably really like Pookie though, she likes anyone willing to hand-feed her!
