How are we doing with When?

by beagoodmom on March 13, 2009

We have been practicing our “WHEN” questions with Pookie. Just as the Speech Teacher recommended. Things have been going OK, but not great, in my opinion.

Then I got this email from the Speech Teacher:

Hi BAGM
Just wanted to let you know that Pookie didn’t do so bad on when questions yesterday or today. Yesterday was with pictures, like I told you and today was without…..I just wanted to see. He got 3 out of 8….which isn’t bad really. It is a hard concept for young kids. The funny one was when I asked, “When do you wear a coat? he answered in snow capped places. I asked him to say it again because I wasn’t sure I heard right!! Other questions he answered correctly were: When should you carry an umbrella? (he said, in the rain), When do you use a blanket? (he said in your bed). You are doing a great job and it really is a great help for Pookie (and me too), but when we work on it together, it just means he meets his goals quicker and we can move onto other things or more challenging things.
Thank you!!
Speech Teacher

So, I guess things are going well. The funny thing is that we were trying to teach him “WHEN” as a time question. (after, before, etc). From his work with the Speech Teacher, it seems that he turns them into “WHERE” and “WHAT” type answers, but that is OK too. It shows that he gets it.

I asked him this morning “When do you wear a coat” and he said “in the snow.” God only knows where he got that “snow capped places” answer! Probably from listening to Peter Pan with BAGD and Geetle every night. There must have been some snow capped mountains in Neverland!

one of the best uses of email….real communication between adults who have the same goal and how they are working together to reach that goal. Love MOM I love all three of you
