Shout-Out : Geetle

by beagoodmom on September 6, 2007

Geetle sometimes does not get the credit she deserves for being a good daughter, a good kid and a good sister. So, here is my shout-out to Geetle.

Geetle is a good daughter. She heard me say that it was hard for me to sit on her bed at night and read books. So now she brings me a pillow from my bedroom so that I can lean against the wall during story time. She also is the person who asks most frequently how the baby and I are doing. She listens, she behaves and she smiles.

Geetle is a good kid. She says please and thank you. She does her jobs (unloading dishwasher and moving laundry). She would like the world on a silver platter, but does not really expect to get it and is OK with that. She worries about whether or not Daddy will remember to eat lunch and that Pookie might hurt himself with this or that. When the kids at today’s playdate started running around in circles, chasing each other in a just-barely acceptable manner, she looked at me, waited for the “OK” nod and then joined the game.

Geetle is a good sister. Its not easy sharing a bedroom with a boy who talks himself to sleep and then wakes up at 5:45 am, sometimes turning the light on so that he can find a blue shirt to wear that day. Its not easy when your playmate will not talk to you. Its not easy to hold it together when someone else in the car is screaming bloody murder and flinging themselves against the seat, and even making a break for the car door at every stoplight. But, she loves Pookie and it shows. She paints his back with bubbles in the tub. She gets him a straw when she gets hers. She cheers for him when he poops in the potty. She has learned how to talk to him, making eye contact and asking “yes or no” questions, increasing her chances of getting an answer.

Geetle and I are “the girls” in our family (at least until the baby is born).  We stick together and look out for each other.  She helps me more than she knows.
