Pookie’s First Day of School

We had a busy weekend, so we nearly forgot to hype up Pookie’s first day of school today.  With Pookie, its important not to start the hype too soon.  He does not do well with delayed gratification, although he is learning.  So, on Monday, we started talking about school.  He acted like he got it.  He told us his teachers name; she had been here for a home visit a few weeks ago.  We packed his backpack and he remembered the zebra folder he had picked out at the store.  Before bed, we asked him where he was going tomorrow; he said “school.”

On Tuesday I had a doctors appointment, so I actually missed him getting on the bus.  But, as BAGD reminds me, I am not the only one that can take care of those kind of things.  So BAGD handled bus time.  Geetle goes off first.  We had to make a big deal about her “Sixth Day of School! woo-hoo!” because she felt left out during the Pookie first day of school hype.  Off she went to that very important day…the sixth day of her second year of preschool.

Pookie’s bus comes 20 minutes later, so he and BAGD were shooting some hoops in the driveway, waiting.   Suddenly…out of no where…a poop sneaks up on Pookie!  Inside they run, just in time.  That itself was a major accomplishment, because we are currently about 50/50 on getting poops in the potty.   Back outside to wait.  Pookie has the ball, he dribbles, he lines up his shot, the bus comes over the hill!  Pookie sees it, sets the ball down carefully and literally runs for the curb.  I think that was the exact moment he “got” that it was his first day of school.   He bolts onto the bus, BAGD following closely, in order to secure the seatbelt, as is district rules.  As the bus pulls away, BAGD can see Pookie bouncing up and down in his seat, grinning from ear to ear.
