Learning About Life in China

by beagoodmom on June 6, 2009

My friend Susan moved to China recently. Her husband took a job there and they packed up and moved to Shanghai! Its like a plot of some movie. I can’t believe it. I am fascinated by the emails she sends us all. She is getting a blog set up and when she does, I will link you there so you can read all about life in China. Its fascinating stuff. So far I have learned:

The bugs in China are huge and plentiful.
The pollution is horrible and leaves a grimy coating on everything.
Bread comes in 8 slice loaves.
Electricity is so expensive that people dry their clothes outside all the time, unless of course it looks like polluted rain is coming soon.
Alot of what is for sale in the stores is stuff that failed inspection for export to the USA.
Eggo waffles cost $10 a box.

I hope she settles in soon so that she will start posting some pictures. I guess they are living in an apartment complex aimed at foreign executives and their families. Sounds like they are doing fine, but still adapting. I can’t imagine what that must be like, but they are certainly having a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Relocating to a new country is always a challenge. Good luck to your friend and to her family! I also look forward to the blog. I am sure it will be a great “therapy” for her. :-)

It is also nice to document their move so she has something to look back.

I will look forward to her blog, it sounds very interesting.
I’ve always thought it would be fascinating to live in a different country, but I think I am probably too spoiled.
Of course though, I do live in the south, where the bugs are also huge and plentiful, so that probably wouldn’t be that big of a change. That being said, I don’t think I would trade fresh air and green grass for polluted rain and grime.
