Wow, so what’s new with you? Not much here. BAGD is off of work this week, so we plan to do some fun stuff. But it looks like the forecast calls for rain every day! We can deal with some rain, but we are hoping for nice weater Fri-Sun when we have some outdoor stuff planned. We have a highly coregraphed plan to go to Six Flags on Friday. Saturday we have a picnic at Shel and Mark’s. Sunday we were heading to the Morton Arboretum. We need good weather for those.
Pookie is enjoying summer break. He still gets up at 6 am every day, but now he is in charge of why! He gets up by himself and goes downstairs to play. Singing at the top of his lungs the whole time. By the time the rest of us get up, he has 4-5 play stations set up all around the house. Dominoes in the library. Rescue Heros in the Kitchen. Color cards in the dining room. He has been making some awesome setences recently. He tells us what he wants to play with and asks for certain toys. He also wowed BAGD yesterday when he began chanting quietly “lookatmelookatmelookatme”. BAGD thought it was just a song until he made eye contact and saw that Pookie was waiting for him to watch so that he could knock over is domino run and then give BAGD a high-five. He rarely cares if we play with him (so we have to force ourselves into his games) but this was a rare example of him needing BAGD’s attention in order to play. Pretty cool.
On the bad front, Pookie also has 2 nasty hangnails that he keeps picking at. We are kind of worried about one of them, it is swollen. But we have been treating/wrapping them and they seem to be getting better. If only there was a way to keep that boy from picking his cuticles. Oh, and then he tripped the other day and split one of his toenails and scraped his knee. I think he has 4 bandaids on at this exact moment.
Geetle has been 50/50 on summer break so far. She rollercoasters from extreme excitement to extreme boredom. Typical kid stuff. Her “boredom” comes when she is not really bored, but she thinks there might be a better offer coming. If we are coloring and she thinks we might play UNO, she is bored because she wants to play UNO. If we are playing UNO and she thinks we might go rent a movie, all of the sudden she is bored because she wants to rent a movie. Surprisingly, however, she is doing a great job this summer of entertaining herself. She plays Polly Pockets, she makes up games in which she writes a list of all the people she knows and then takes attendance to see which ones are in the house at that moment, she reads, she plays crazy nonsense games with Giggles involving cardboard boxes and flipflops.
Giggles is also enjoying Summer so far. We played at Mamaw’s all day last Friday, for her garage sale. We played with Lucy the dog. BAGD took the kids to the petshop to see the fish. We went to the park. All of these things are super fun for Giggles. She wants to walk and touch things. That is her #1 goal this Summer. To touch it all. She has a 2x a week babysitting/playdate dealio in which the 6th girl from across the street comes over to play with her for 2 hours while I do some computer work. Giggles loves that. They shreik and laugh for 2 hours straight.
Giggles has been so copy cat recently, its hilarious. She wore deoderant to the garage sale last Friday, because I wore some and she needed it too. She put hers on her stomach. At the garage sale she needed to take her afternoon nap so I set her up in a Pack n Play inside. I had brought her Bikini Bunny and quilt from home. I set it all up and put her inside. She looked carefully at the set-up and then crouched down, tapping the floor of the Pack n Play. “papapapapa” she said. I need a “papapapapap”. I explained that I did not bring her pillow, because its just a Pack n Play nap at Mamaw’s and she would be fine without it. She looked me square in the eye and firmly said “pappapapapapa.” So, I had to go find her a tiny travel pillow to sleep on. Sheesh. Is she aware that she is only 18 months old?
BAGD has been doing alot of homework. It seems like he is staying on track. He got 100% on his first 2 homeworks, so thats good. He studies alot, but don’t feel sorry for him. He likes it. He built me some gates to close of the top and bottom of the stairs that lead from our patio to our lawn. Its as a fll story staircase, so I did not want Giggles using them. He just needs to add bolt locks and we are ready for her to go out on the patio. Poor girl does not even know we have a patio. Until the gates, we were petrified to let her out there.
We got a phone call from the school district yesterday. They want to place Pookie in the new Autism classroom. We initially wanted that too, but now we are leaning towards the Modified Learning Program (which he was in for Kindergarten). We are waiting for the Special Ed. coordinator to call us so we can learn about how the programs differ. More to follow on that.
I am chugging right along, doing my thing. I am finding it hard to have more than one hobby at a time right now. I bought a good bunch of clearance fabric at Joann recently but I also got some good books at Border’s that day. I am drawn to the books more than the fabric. I hope to get back to the fabric soon. I am still finding great things I want to make online, so I am sure I will. In the meantime, I am reading a bit of fiction right now, which is also unusual for me.
So, that is the BeAGoodFamily update. Thanks for reading.
