BAGD read The Wizard of Oz to the kids recently. They really enjoyed it. We also watched the movie, which Geetle thought was a waste of time, since it had scarier parts and cut out some of her favorite things from the book. She was not scared by the book at all, but she will tell you that the movie gives her nightmares, because of the Wicked Witch.
Pookie used to have a really hard time quieting down for stories, but now that BAGD reads “big kid” books to them at night (usually off his iPod) Pookie is doing much better. It seems that Pookie pays better attention when there is less to pay attention to, if that makes any sense. He did really well with the Wizard and got alot out of it.
Now that they are done with the Wizard of Oz, they are reading The Wind in the Willows, but Pookie still asks for the Wizard almost every night. He takes a hard copy of the book to bed with him and likes page 168 the best…the page where the Wizard says “I am the Great and Powerful Oz!” He reads that over and over. Always in a funny booming voice.
I recently made Geetle a stuffed Mummy doll (for a Halloween present…she will love it….trust me) and was looking for something to make for Pookie. I considered an Oz doll, but can’t find any patterns. Turns out there is a ton of “>Wizard of Oz fabric available, but I am not sure that is up his alley. He likes the giant scary floating head that projects on the wall in the Emerald City. If anyone sees a Wizard of Oz stuffed animal pattern, let me know.

I remember when I was a kid being afraid of the wizard of oz movie. But, I have to say she didn’t take her eyes off the movie for a second or give the impression she thought it was scary.
