More on the Baby’s Name

Thanks for your comments on our baby name.     A few things:

Not only do we need a real name for the baby, she will need a new internet nickname too.  Taco Supreme was great in the beginning, because that was my only real “I’d do just about anything for one” craving.  But I am sort of over it now.   But we will use it until she gives us a better one.  I will have to pick one fast, because I do not want BAGD to pick it.  I am not so fond of the names he uses for our other kids.  Partly because off the ‘net, I call Geetle my Pookie Pie.  Its just confusing.  And how can Pookie grow up into the tough little man he is destined to be, when he started out as a “Pookie?”

The campaign poster was for some local election…city council or something.  I am a bit ashamed to admit that I did not vote in that election, so I really have no idea what she was running form or if she won.  But she had a cool name.  And there is a stop light in front of the Jiffy Lube, so I had time to glance over and read it.

BAGD’s middle name is from a character that has been in a movie and an actual literary-type book.  Luckily, Shrek has never made it a “real” book (I do not count all those movie tie-in books that they sell after any adolescent movie.  You know, like “Lightning McQueen goes to the Dentist!”.)

My choice for first name is from a TV show that I watched on TVLand, but I am sure they play it on alot of other channels.  Its kind of an old standby, as syndicated TV shows go.

We briefly debated Lauren and Thea.  BAGD likes Lauren.  I liked Thea.  Geetle is sure the baby will be named Kate, her favorite cartoon baby on the Arthur show.  Pookie’s only contribution was “Miss Kendra” which will not work because it would remind me of Hugh Hefner’s #3 girlfriend on “Girls Next Door.”  I am sure he would also like Emily, the name of his swimming instructor.  When he says “Emily” he always giggles a bit…I think he liked her quite a bit.

I can say no more.  I need to spend my mental energy thinking up a good middle name, so that BAGD and I can get back to our debate.  Right now, he refuses to discuss the issue with me, because I do not have a full name to offer, just a first name.
But, if you have any ideas, I tend to like Grandmother names.  So, if you would like to leave a comment with the name of your grandmother, you just might find that I pick it.  I have not meet a “modern” name yet that I like.  Those of you who know Geetle’s real name will understand.  I think the prime time period for my names is about 1900-1945.  Any suggestions?

Shrek was a literary masterpiece long before he was a movie star. The story of Shrek was written by the same children’s author as Sylvestor and the Magic Pebble. L ove MOM

As for the blog name…you could take T-man’s approach and just call her baby. Apparently he doesn’t feel as attached to his sister as we thought. If he just calls her “baby,” it makes her interchangeable with the newer model he wants to replace her with.

I’m lucky, I have had 5 grandmas! my dad’s mom (who died before I was born, and who I was named in honor of, though I don’t share her English first name, just her hebrew and middle names) and step mom (who my sister was named for), my mom’s mom, and the mother and grandmother of my nanny. Irma (middle name Claire), Judith, Edith, Lody and Rosita respectively.

Other “grandma” names I like for a modern little girl : Rose, Ruby, Barbra and Eleanore.

Hmmm, I did not know Shrek was a book first. Shrek I liked, Shrek the Third, not so much. I am guessing Shrek the Third was never a book.

BAGD told me last night that when the baby is born, he might celebrate by renaming all the kids with new blog names. He also might have a Pepsi. He has not had a soda since Thanksgiving weekend 2006.

I like the name Lody, but I am also a Creedence Clearwater Revival fan and if I were to name the baby Lody, I think the song “Stuck in Lodi Again” would run through my head almost constantly. There it goes, it started already.

Also, I can’t use Edith. That’s my sister’s middle name. It would be too confusing.

I am a nomenclature freak! Which is how my daughter got named something no one can pronounce. Now I’m actually considering a third baby, simply because I have another name picked out I want to use. It would have to be a girl though.

Here are some nice “old lady” names for you.

      Josephine
      Virginia
      Georgia
      Clara
      Cora
      Nora

First of all Pookie can grow up to be a very tough wonderful man just like his dad, as that was BAGD nickname when he was small, prior to Groovy Dog.

In reguard to a Grandma name I can’t think of a better old fashioned grandma name than mine. It wouldn’t be confusing to the kids when I watch them either because, they call me Mamaw. Just a thought. It’s still my choice. That or Katlyn Rock or Rocklyn. I’ll start working on the kids when I’m there watching them.

The first round is easy because the energy of the new arrivals far outweighs the emotion of the name. I love Geetle and Pookie. As you know I insist on referring to them. for the most part, in their full names. I do,however, strongly believe that this beautiful child’s name should be drawn upon the numeral uno caretaker of the twins. Honoring someone for the care of your most precious cargo isn’t completely done in a thank you note or gesture. It’s done when the future care is committed to the same. Katlyn Pearl may be the coolest name that I have ever said. Mary (anything) would only be better.

I think we are under a lot of pressure to find a good name, because we do have such great names for our first kids. I agree their names are perfect for them. So I am nervous that this baby’s name might not be as good.

Aunt Shel already has dibs on Pearl. Which is great, because BAGD and I want our kids to have their own names. I understand that some people use the name as a way of honoring someone, but we don’t see it that way. Right or wrong, your name is society’s first clue about who you are, and it should be about *you*, not about someone else. I think there are better and more meaningful ways to link your kids with the important people in their lives.
