Well, sort of.
During the school year, when I go volunteer at Pookie and Geetle’s schools, Giggles goes to a babysitter, KT. KT had a baby late last school year, so we actually haven’t used her since Early May. But yesterday, when I thought I was going to Geetle’s school, we got started back on our weekly babysitting routine with her.
I wondered if Giggles would remember KT, we only saw her once during the summer, for a playdate. And Giggles is getting very used to being with me. I wondered if she would be upset when she figured out that she was going to KT’s and that I was leaving without her. It ended up NOT being a problem!
I packed her diaper bag that morning, before we walked Geetle to the bus. I set the diaper bag by the door and herded the girls outside to walk to Geetle’s bus. Giggles got upset because I did not bring the diaper bag. She started yelling “Need my bag! Go to KT’s!”. I told her we had to drop Geetle at the bus first and she calmed down. But I am not sure she believed me at that point.
When we got back from the bus, Giggles ran around the house getting things she wanted to take to KT’s. 6 sippy cups, her polar bear Little Fuzzy, her shoes, etc.
Its a short drive to KT’s and on the way we talked about KT and her boys. Giggles kept saying “Yeah. I know.” When we pulled up, her dogs were in the yard. These are BIG dogs…like Marmaduke and his slightly smaller, shaggier sidekick. I know they are very well-behaved, but I wondered if Giggles would be scared. I took her out of the car and carried her past the dogs. She stared at them as they followed us to the house. She told me several times “the doggies see me!”
Inside, Giggles darted right to KT’s toys and was not clingy at all. I stayed for a few minutes, more to see the new baby and talk to KT. When I left, Giggles was playing with a ball and chattering.
When I came back that afternoon, KT’s report was that Giggles was fine all day! She spent 5 minutes staring at KT’s son (her age) as they both blew raspberries at each other. Giggles talked up a storm and made KT laugh, since her son is much quieter. Then they played in the yard for almost 2 hours; and I am sure the dogs were there too. They looked at a magazine and Giggles pointed out the Target ad. KT’s son petted Giggles’ hair once, which startled her, causing her to run to KT yelling “He pushed me! He pushed me!”
On the way home, I asked Giggles where she had been all day. She said “KT’s house!”
I asked her what she had for lunch. She said “Peanut Butter Jelly!”
I asked her if she had fun. She said “Yes. I do.”
Giggles is back in school too.
