the kids were home from school (Columbus Day) and I usually do not work at all on Mondays. But, I had to “check in” on something that ended up taking almost 2 hours. I had planned on taking the girls to the gym during that time (Pookie does not like the gym babysitting room and could stay home because BAGD was working from home). But, we missed our window and I felt bad that they had to sit around waiting for me while I did my work thing.

While I worked, Geetle played with Giggles, which was a big help. It was cute to hear them laughing in the basement while I worked in the room next door. They really had a good time. Pookie drifted in and out, enjoying his free time.

BAGD was able to make them all lunch while I finished up. As soon as I was done, I got the report from BAGD that Pookie was being naughty and was in a touchy mood. Since I was done, we decided to go to the Mall to walk around. Usually a little physical activity helps Pookie when he is on a naughty bender. Plus, they all like the Mall. They get to throw pennies in the fountain, I let them ride those $.75 kiddie rides, I usually am willing to buy gum balls and tootsie pops, they can look at the puppies in the pet store, etc.

So, off we went.

We did all those things I mentioned above, plus rode in the glass elevator twice. They had a ball. I also bought them winter coats and snow pants, which excited Geetle and bored Pookie. At the candy store, we bought special candies to use on Giggles’ birthday cupcakes in a few weeks. We needed specific shapes and colors for a secret cupcake surprise. We also did some birthday shopping for Grandman and Great Grandpa. All in all, a good trip. They were all very well behaved.

I think Pookie did just need a break from being home. Now that I think about it, he was cooped up most of the day on Sunday too. Whenever we go to the Mall, he insists on looking at the flashing lights/strobe machines at Spencers. That is the only thing I do not like about the Mall. I don’t care if he looks at light machines/strobe lights, but I wish they sold them at Hallmark or JCP instead of Spencers. I am to the point now, where I park the stroller outside the store and let him go inside to look alone. I can see him thru the window and when its been enough time, I just yell and he comes out. I find that better than pushing my stroller thru the aisles of naughty Halloween costumes and Bachlorette party accessories.

Geetle really wanted to walk thru a party store, so we did. I think she was considering hitting me up for an item of Webkin clothing. But she didn’t. I am glad she is learning that we don’t get a toy every time. I have been drilling that lesson in for 6 years. She was happiest with her new winter coat, which she picked out all by herself. Its not my favorite color combination, but she likes it, so that is important. She wore it home.

Giggles rode in the stroller most of the time, which is an accomplishment for her lately. She is convinced that she is a big kid and gets to walk too. Sometimes we let her, but sometimes its best for her to be in the stroller. I let her out to look at toys at Kohls and to throw pennies in the fountain. She also got to ride the $.75 hot rod ride. Oh, and the yogurt covered pretzels, don’t forget them!

Pookie was happy because the Mall was relatively quiet and he did not have to do much against his will. I did make him try on the coat and wait while I picked out Grandma’s present. But other than that, we just walked at the kids’ pace.

As we were leaving the Mall, we had a little trouble because I had a McDonalds cup full of water that the kids were sharing. As you might expect, someone had to get the last drink and that made the others upset. So, I stopped at McDonalds again and bought them Milk and Apples.

My best moment of the day was when we were driving home and I looked in the rear view mirror and saw Pookie. He had been chewing his gum ball, but then I gave him the bag of Apples. In order to preserve his valuable gum, but stilll eat the apples, he needed to come up with a plan. His response was to stick his gum on his lip, right under his nose, so that it looked like a little pink mustache.

I broke out laughing.
He did not see what was so funny.
And that made me laugh even harder.
