Pookie

- has been flying Rocket (from Little Einsteins) around the house every day.  He flies him thru the kitchen , dining room, thru library up the hall and back to the kitchen.  A dozen laps in a session.  Sometimes he makes a big show of crashing the rocket into me or BAGD if we are standing in his way.

- stood up on the bus and walked around a bit today.  The bus driver told him to sit down, and he did.  They talked to him about it at school and wrote a note home.  When I asked him what happened on the bus today, he said “You need to sit down.  No walking on the bus.  Walking on the bus is naughty.”  All of that was unprompted, so he understood what went wrong.  He was not able to tell me why he was walking on the bus.  But at least he knew it was wrong and could talk about that a bit.

- already has a big red nose for this cold and flu season.  The poor boy’s nose runs so much and he scrubs it so well with a kleenex a dozen times a day that he always gets a red mustache.  I try to put Eucerine cream on it at night, but he hates that.  Poor kid.

-really, really, really wants to open some presents.

-is still content to wear short sleeved T-shirts and summer pajamas, regardless of the weather.  I make him wear another layer, but he scowls at me.

- does the Melissa & Doug Floor Puzzle “The 50 States” every day.  He no longer has to look at the picture on the box.  He knows where they all go.  From Idaho to Georgia.  From Kentucky to Arizona.   He lost Maine and was very upset, so BAGD made a new Maine out of cardboard.  Pookie at first rejected this inferior replacement, but now includes it every time, since he is a stickler for accuracy.  I guess he figures a hand drawn Maine is better than no Maine at all.

-read to me after school today.  In a clear and loud voice, with a consistent tempo.

-likes to walk into a room, pick a person, approach them  and say “Hi Sweetie” in a deep, deep voice.   Not sure where that came from.  BAGD and I are more likely to use endearments like “Dr. Math” and “My Future Ex- Husband”  than anything as adorable as “Sweetie.”

-missed a trip to Wisconsin last weekend and did not get to help put up Grandma’s tree, but will be the head ornament boy (I am sure) when we go to Sycamore to do Mamaw’s tree on Friday.

- sleeps with at least 8 of his favorite books every night (Annie’s Solo Mission, Old Hat New Hat, No David!, Harold and the Purple Crayon, etc).  Thank goodness for the rails on his bunk bed…keeps all the books in.

- has been doing great in Swimming Lessons.  His teacher works one-on-one with him in the therapy pool.  We thought she was just a regular life guard, but found out she has experience with ASD and knows some tricks.  She pulls him out of the group and they go to the Therapy Pool where its quieter.  She can get him to float on his back, stiff as a board.  She has him wear an Aquarobics buoyancy belt and he paddles around the deep end of the pool (4.5 feet).   Usually he just likes to jump in the pool with a splash (a Marley & Me move) but she gets him to do so much more.  We are going to try and get her next session too.

It might sound weird, but when my nose gets like that I put carmex on it…it really does work!
