A question for the group

by beagoodmom on February 6, 2010

Have you ever seen a person with a facial tattoo? A real person…live…in front of you…not part of a circus or something like that. It was just a regular day, you were returning some flip-flops at Target, you turned to leave the Service Counter and there he was…a man with a facial tattoo. Or a woman.

These people are all over the internet. I’m sure a good portion of them are in prison, sure. But some claim to lead normal lives. If that’s true, and they exist in the same portion to the general population as they do on the internet…how come I have never seen one? I have been living in the big city for over 10 years. Sure, you don’t see many in rural Wisconsin, from whence I sprung. But I live in the big city now, surely I would have seen one in the past decade!

Have you seen one?
Tell me all about it. Where did you see him/her? What was he/she doing there? What did the tattoo look like? Was it a big one? How was he/she dressed? Did he/she seem annoyed when you stared? You did stare, didn’t you? How could you have helped it!

Tell me all about it.

I can’t think of anyone that I’ve seen with a facial tattoo…but I DO know someone that has one on the side of their neck, pretty close to their face…but this guy also has a large mohawk that is often green or pink, so the neck tattoo isn’t really what makes you stare at him.

Used to see them at the airport while waiting for a flight. The guy had a checkerboard all over his face and head. Yes, I stared, no he didn’t say anything. I figure if they put themselves out like that they want to be stared at.

Gabourey Sidibe (the girl from the movie Precious) had a funny quote about this on The View the other day. Skip to 4.00 minutes into the interview.

my friend actually has a very small star tattooed under her eye. it’s hardly noticeable, it kind of looks like a mole or something at first. And it was pretty cool when i first noticed it was a star. it made me smile =]

and i know people from punk bands that have face tattoos. i love them. as long as they’re artistic and not gang related.

I once met this guy (http://www.thelizardman.com) at the subway sandwich place at the Houston international airport. He was ordering a sandwich (vegetarian) and we exchanged pleasantries while waiting on our orders. He was very polite and friendly. I didn’t really stare. It’s obviously hard not to notice but I think I did a good job. Also, I recognized him from the TV version of Ripley’s Believe it or Not, so maybe that had something to do with my minimized shock.

I clicked. That is one scary life-time commitment. I hope he likes it when those square tatoos wrinkle into parallelograms and bumpy cloud shapes as he ages!
