Today is my first day back to work. A monumentous day, indeed. But a few things to know:
1. I work at home, in the basement, part-time.
2. BAGD also works at home in the basement.
3. My company issued laptop is all messed up and I “need my drives re-mapped” whatever that means.Â
So, I am unable to do any real work and I am sitting here watching BAGD “work” as he rocks out to some 80’s hair band radio station on the internet. Seems just like a regular night, nothing special, except that today is my first day back and already have a Friday deadline for something.
I am officially on the clock, but can do no real work without my laptop. So, should I feel guilty? My company is “paper-light” meaning that we do not use paper files, all data is stored in an electronic database. When that database is off-line or my laptop is having problems, I don’t get any work done.  But I still log the hours (I get paid hourly). Is that wrong? I always feel guilty, but BAGD says not to. This is my regularly scheduled work time, and I am sitting here ready to work, but the Help Desk is still working on my laptop remotely, so I cannot do anything.  If I were in the actual office, and not at home, I would be crouched in my friend Beth’s cubicle gossiping with her, ocassionally standing up to ask our cube-neighbors “Is the system back up yet?”Â

Don’t feel bad. I spent my first five days at work twiddling my thumbs while waiting for my security paperwork to go through. Yup… that’d be our “paperless” organization called the US Army.

I hope that it helps that you feel comfortable with the baby sitter. It did seem a little easier for you than when you left for work after Geetle and Pookie were born.

well, be sure to realize how blessed you are to not have to “leave” your baby. When I had T-man I went back to work full-time into my classroom when he was Giggles age. That was really difficult. I am glad that is not something you have to experience.

Do not feel bad. I work from home as well and when my computer literally screamed at me and deleted my entire hard drive, there was nothing I could do. You just have to wait. Waiting = time. Time = money. Any boss/CEO will tell you that.
