Ladies, imagine back to when you were pregnant. Did you do anything like climb to the top of a big hill or manuever thru a crowed store or visit the park with your older kids? Did you think “how am I going to do this when the baby comes?!” Of course you did! But then you thought “oh well, at least its easy to tote around the baby now…hahaha…before she is born…hahaha.”
Why don’t you just get a sling?! Its still easy to tote your baby around. Here is a few of the things I do while wearing Giggles in her sling:
1. get Pookie and Geetle on and off the preschool bus
2. make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
3. go to the bathroom
4. sweep the floor
5. feed her, while using my other free hand to read the newspaper, eat lunch or talk on the phone.
6. sit at my computer and type with both hands
7. attend fabulous parties and cultural events

I love this sling. Its by Mamma’s Milk, but I also have an Ultimate Baby Wrap from when Geetle and Pookie were young. I have one of my rag quilts tucked around Giggles, so you cannot see the pattern well, but its a cute blue polka dot.
Both comfortable and good for different purposes. The UBW is very comfortable and secure for older babies, but not as attractive as the Mamma’s Milk sling. The Mamma’s Milk sling is great for an infant; perfect for a nap or a place to hide from prying eyes. I wore 14.4 lb Giggles for over 2 hours on Sunday, as we walked through the zoo, and never felt a single ache in my back or shoulder (although it does make my stomach sweat, but I guess that proves Giggles is warm enough in there.)
I wonder why every parent does not get one. Pushing around a stroller is alot of work and you can’t take it everywhere (like in the penguin house at the zoo). Even people who do buy a carrier seem to buy the other kinds. Why? I guess I understand why people buy the rigid Baby Bjorn type of front carriers. They are mass marketed and instill confidence…it is obvious that the baby is NOT falling out of that contraption. But these more relaxed slings are so much more comfortable for Mom and Kid. I am a pretty paranoid person…so I check Giggles’ placement frequently. I worry that she will slip off the hammock of the sling and fall, but I know that it is very unlikely. I place her carefully and check her every now and then. She is safe. Just as safe as in one of the rigid Baby Bjorns.
I recommend using a sling. And I recommend these two.

I agree on babywearing– no matter which sling you choose. I had a Baby Bjorn, which I loved while in Europe, but then The Boy got heavier, and it wasn’t as comfortable, so I got a Hotsling (http://www.hotslings.com/), which I still use and love. At that point, I was hooked on slings, and bought a Baby K’tan (http://www.babyktan.com/), which I also love for longer walks/wearings. Most recently, I bought a ring-sling, which I am also in love with. I can’t remember the brand right now, but I suppose it is not important. It has a nice zipper pocket, so I can tuck my phone, cash, tissues, etc in there and not have to carry a bag.
Amen! I have used a sling since Emily (1 yr) was a few days old and we still do to this day. We have ring slings and mei tais here… and I just picked up a hip hammock the other day. I only wish I had known about them when Tyler (6 yr) was a baby. (Although I did put him on my back in my mei tai carrier once just for giggles. lol)They really are a life saver, especially when you need your hands for your older child(ren). My only trouble is the diaper bag… I still find myself using the stroller at times to haul the diaper bag and coats around in. Any solutions to that??
I have not figured out what do do about the diaper bag and coats yet. I do like using my stroller to haul them around. But for quick trips, I just stuff a diaper and a bottle into the sling and we go. I do not bother with a change of clothes or wipes. I figure toilet paper works for grown ups, it will work for a baby. And if she pees thru an outfit, we will just come home. I also stuff that sort of thing in my purse too. One less bag. We live in a cold climate, so coats are an issue. But sometimes I just leave them in the car and tell the kids to run for the building.
I bought a bigger purse to carry when I need more stuff, but usually, if it is quick, I leave hte diapers and everything in the car and run back out if I need them. Also, I am a fan of a diaper wallet, which is easy to throw in the purse. I nurse, so no need for a bottle, but the sippy cup is getting to be a must have!
