Pookie the Artist

You all know Pookie loves to draw.  You also know that he usually (meaning always) draws “Arthur Faces” or writes out the titles of Baby Einstein videos he used to watch 3 years ago.  One thing he NEVER does is color.  He never does coloring books.  He never colors in his menu at IHOP.  Never.  EVER.  I think its because he looks at all those black and white drawings and thinks they look just fine; that they do not need any more color.  He doesn’t see the point.

Lately we have been doing what we call “Home School” (as compared to “Church School” and “School” which are preschool classes Pookie and Geetle attend.)  During Home School, we sit together and complete worksheets, make candy patterns, play a game, do a puzzle, anything like that.  Just something to take turns and use some sort of skill.  Today’s Home School was 3 or 4 pages out of a flier we got in the mail for a kids puzzle magazine called Puzzle Buzz.   It actually looks like a good magazine, but I just spent a bunch on some workbooks at the teacher store, so we are not subscribing yet.

As we were doing the tasks,  Pookie kept trying to color in different parts of the page.  So, I ran and got the first coloring book I could find.  It happened to be a NASCAR coloring book (you didn’t know they made such a thing, did you?  Thanks Uncle Mark.)  Here is what Pookie did:

Notice how he colored in the eyes and teeth.  Then he went and colored the border and flag.  I quietly set him up with a second page and some additional markers.  I was careful not to say a word.   Here is the next one: nascarcoloringbook2.jpg

Each finger a different color.  Then he turned the page over and colored in the words
RACE CAR.

Then he was done.

I hope he is not done done.  I would like to see more of this.
