My search engine traffic is pitiful.

I wish I got more interesting search engine traffic. I check statcounter and its usually one of three things that bring new people to my blog:

How to clean toothbrushes

Bingo Dauber art

Homemade duck costume

These do not define me people! I am more than a 2 sentence blurb on how you can use denture tablets to clean toothbrushes! (but it does work, you should try it)

I also get some traffic for some topics I am proud of, such as

which is better vaginal or C-section delivery

what is the best boogie board, stroller, carseat combination

I worked hard on those posts.

I know that people who end up on my “Cold Wet and Naked” post probably did not get what they were hoping for.

I never get autism traffic. I write about autism all the time, but I probably don’t say the word enough in my posts, so it does not show up in the searches. BAGD gets alot of traffic on the topic, I think its because he uses scientific words and blah blah blah. I just write about Pookie.

Here is what I think my blog should come up under:

How to be a good mom.

Tips for living with autism

Reasonably well-adjusted Mom with 3 kids just trying to get through the day, but then realizing its actually going pretty well.

Ways to be involved with your kids.

What is a normal family like?

Random observations on motherhood, witty and insightful, yet not at all condescending.

Please, let me go a week with out some search for “homemade duck costume”. Please.

I wrote this post on 6-5 and then future scheduled it for 6-10.  On 6-6 I got the following totally unsolicited email, I swear:

I don’t know when you will read this or if you ever will. My name is —–
and I have 2 beautiful girls under 3. I got sent to your blog while searching
for “how to be a good mom” on google. Though I only read a few entries, I
enjoyed it and it touched me deeply. It helped to remind me why I am here. I can
tell you love your children and you seems like good parents to me. Thanks for
blogging even when you think no one is watching. Keep up the good work and God
Bless.

So…now I feel pretty stupid.  I guess I do have important search engine traffic.  I am honored that she would take the time to write me a note and that she found value in my words.   I blog for my own sanity (and to keep the grandparents up to date with pictures).  I never claimed to be saving the world.  I blog to remind myself that I am trying to be a good mom….not really to show anyone else how to do it.  I don’t know if I could do that.    But, as someone who is always looking for inspiration and ideas myself, I can appreciate why someone would come here looking for it too.  Thanks.
