Kyuki-Do Students

Here is Geetle in her Kyuki-Do uniform.  She did some of the moves while I took her picture.

I tried to take Pookie’s picture too, but I could not find him.  Turns out he was in the car, buckled up, ready to go to Kyuki-Do.  Oh, how he loves it.   I will get his picture next time.

We are excited about Kyuki-Do.  So excited that we are *almost* ready to sign the contract (we are taking a month of free classes right now).  Its a commitment….and it’s got the price tag to go with it.  But we hope that it will be the kids’ “thing.”  Especially Pookie.  He loves to do physical things and mimic.  He enjoys the class and did really well Tuesday night.  We hope that it will give him focus and a sense of accomplishment.  We know it will give Geetle these things.  She is SUPER excited and would give up just about anything to go to Kyuki-Do.  I can’t wait until she gets a belt, she will be so proud.  She is so focused on her movements already.

I did some internet research and there has been alot of discussion about the benefits of martial arts, as they respect Autism.   Martial arts make you more aware of the body/mind connection.  They teach you to control your body and impulses.  They are all about repetitive motions, done to precise degrees.  Its an individual sport, but you can interact and challenge others.   The physical workout can be as intense as you make it, which is good for those with energy to burn.  These are the reasons why it is recommended for Autism.

Pookie and Geetle are attending a Kyuki-Do studio with a great staff.  We have discussed our goals with them and it seems like we have found a good environment.  We intend to finish our free month of classes, just to make sure, but I think we are a Kyuki-Do family now.
