The Ghosts Dinner

Pookie loves The Ghost’s Dinner by Jacques Duquennoy (which he pronounces as “Jack Dannis”).   Its about a ghost named Henry who throws a dinner party.  The foods he serves turn his ghost friends all sorts of colors.  Pookie has it memorized.

The other night I thought it would be fun to encourage his pretend play and serve “The Ghost’s Dinner.”  We had the same foods as they serve in the book:  salmon, cheese, salad, pumpkin soup, hot chocolate, etc.  Pookie and Geetle wore BAGD’s white undershirts to the table as a ghost costume.   BAGD read the book as I served the courses.  Pookie got it….sort  of.  He knew what we were doing, but he was not into it.  He was fixated on swimming in the kiddie pool after dinner.  Plus, it was almost like he thought it was no big deal to have your Mom serve the food from a book.  He is sort of hard to impress at times.   I was a little disappointed, I thought it was such a cool idea.  I even called him “Henry” (or “Henery” as he pronounces it) several times, but that did nothing for him.  But maybe we will do it again.  Things always work better the second time with Pookie.
