As you know, I am making a special request Dog Blanket, just for Pookie.
I laid out the fabric, grabbed a piece of chalk and started drawing a giant dog pelt. Pretty good, I think.
Then, off to the scrap pile!
I found everything I needed to add a little personality.
Now, I just have to sew down all the “personality” pieces and assemble him. He is cut from a double thickness of polar fleece. Pookie likes a little bit of weight in his dog blankets (I think) so I am going to sandwich some thin batting in between. The double thickness will also make it easier to assemble and hide the joints. Notice the dog bone pillow. He also requested a pillow.
More to come. I don’t really think this will turn into a “make a dog blanket tutorial” since I am just winging it. But, feel free to follow along, if you like. First step was chalking out the giant peanut shaped body, a squat head and 4 paws/limbs. Then the rest just happened quickly…the scraps were flying. Polar fleece is a pretty forgiving medium, so that helps. To give you an idea of scale, the body is about 24 inches wide at the middle and about 4 1/2 feet long. When he is done, I imagine Pookie will want to lay on the dog and wrap the limbs up around himself. But I might be wrong, this is his concept, not mine.

Very cute…I’ll bet he is excited. Did he help you look thru the scrap drawer? Dad says he will be thirsty for lemonage by the 20th so bring it on.
