Cincinnati- Day Two

by beagoodmom on August 13, 2008

We debated whether we should go to Coney Island Park or Kings Island while in Cincinnati. Coney Island is cheaper and is supposed to be geared for younger kids. But Kings Island is Kings Island!. We decided that Kings Island was the way to go. They had a Nickelodeon area and the full water park. After visiting Kroger to buy discount tickets and, as it turns out, buy foot long hot dogs, we were off. Well, wait, first we ate the foot long hotdogs. That was pretty fun, although Geetle made us cut hers in half! Duh. Pookie made me write “truck” on his in ketchup.

Short ride to the park, its very near downtown Cincinnati,
.
Once there, we started in the Nickelodeon area and really did not leave it. The lines were OK, and the kids wanted to do alot of the rides. They did the swings, the helicopters, and a racetrack ride. Pookie saw a roller coaster and pointed at it, saying we should “go there.” BAGD agreed to take him on the ride, figuring that if he chickened out, that was fine. We thought it was a kiddie roller coaster…and I guess it was, but it scores a “4″ on the Kings Island Thrill Scale. Kings Island Describes these as “High Thrill Rides Rides that generally have medium to high speeds and/or heights with moderate to rapid braking. Riders may encounter unexpected changes in speed, direction and/or
elevation.” In other words….a real roller coaster.

He loved it! He was quiet and smiling the whole time, and even waited patiently in line. When they were done, he pointed to the next one he wanted to ride. Geetle is not into roller coasters (yet?) so she went on the peaceful motor car ride.

Pookie is a unique study. He rarely fits in the autism box. He likes Roller Coasters. He will cover is ears when he goes thru the SpongeBob water splash zone, but when he comes out the exit, he will immediately say that he wants to go thru again. Just like this:

And he will ride the tall, tall, must have an adult with you, water slide:

Not in the box at all.

Geetle and Giggles had a blast too. Giggles loved the pool:

She was also a very good girl and took a nap in the stroller in the middle of Nickelodeon Zone! Perfect. We worried how she would do with her napping/sleeping. We all shared a bedroom while visiting Cincinnati. Giggles and Pookie are becoming friends but they still do not get along when it comes to one important thing. They make each other cry, which makes them cry, which makes the other cry, which makes….well, you get it. They struggled to find their groove on that first night, settling into our temporary bedroom. But they did allright and neither one was tired the next day.

Geetle enjoyed the whole day, I am not sure what she would say was her favorite part. I think it was the fact that she got to run from ride to ride and we followed her where ever she went. Mamaw and Papaw came too, so she had plenty of adults to choose from. Geetle is a doer. We all act like its Pookie who likes to be out and about. He does. But Geetle is the one who wants to “do.” She wants to see the zoo, she wants to run up the sidewalk at Kings Island, she wants to walk on the curb by the blooming flowers, she wants to be out and livin’ life. Vacation is her thing. She may not know it yet, but it is. She wants an agenda and a jam-packed day of events.

After our day of family fun, Mamaw and Papaw took the kids home and left us at Kings Island. I rode a few roller coasters with BAGD, then told him I had to stop. I don’t get motion sick, but my neck and head start to hurt after a while. BAGD says its because I close my eyes while riding and then I cannot brace for the turns and drops. He is probably right, but I still refuse to open my eyes. The lines were good, less than 20 minutes for each ride. Kings Island is a great place to visit, if you find yourself near Cincinnati.

That is so cool that the kids like roller coasters! I want to like them so badly, but they just terrify me. A couple of weeks ago, D and I went on a mini-vacation, and we found this place that has chair lifts up a pretty mountain. Well, I wanted to go, but as soon as I got on the thing, I wanted off….I thought I was going to pass out. It was embarrassing, because there were 5 year olds on this thing that were not scared.
