Cooking is for Losers

by beagoodmom on April 25, 2013

I am getting really tired of feeding all these people around here.

I go in phases. I used to love to cook; and I was really good at it. But for the last few years its just not my thing. We have been getting by with simple, non-recipe, meals and things I have memorized and can throw together. But even that it starting to wear on me. I’m going to give Once A Month Cooking another try and see how that goes. With any luck, a full day of cooking and a sturdy crockpot will carry us for the next month.

I looked thru some recipes tonight…and even found my old blog entries on BeAGoodDad from the last time I did it! Hopefully I can pull the recipes together tomorrow and get the supplies for a Saturday or Sunday cooking session.

I’ll keep you posted!

Ugh, I feel you.
I actually do love to cook but I have gotten out of the habit since we remodeled our house and our kitchen was not usable for several months (which also happened to coincide with the months that I did not care about eating anyway).
My newest tactic is to shop at Sam’s/Costco and buy frozen fish, chicken, etc that you just have to stick in the oven. I can usually manage a couple decent sides once I have the meat taken care of.

That’s kind of what I put in the freezer today..mostly entrees. If all else fails we open a can of baked beans and slice up some apples as sides! But this time I also made some tin foil packets of frozen vegetables, a spice sprinkle and a pat of butter. I figured they can be cooked 1 of 3 ways (grill, oven or crockpot) depending on how much time I have. If all else fails, I can also just empty them into a bowl and microwave.

I always remind people that I AM a good cook…I just don’t like to do it! LOL!
