What could you learn from your kids today?
I could learn that some things are not so scary if you have someone to support you through it.

…not how you would expect. It seems to be spreading to Pookie’s legs. Maybe I don’t have what I think I have. The itch has gone away somewhat, but I still have the bumps. Now Pookie has some too. I tried to convince BAGD that we got it from the long grass by the fence in the backyard, but he did not believe us. (I just wanted him to weed whack)
Pookie’s seem to bother him too, although he does not scratch them. I tells me that he needs a band-aid, which is his universal way of expressing bodily discomfort. Tomorrow, we will try some Benadryl spray. The OB-Gyn said its Ok for me.
Aunt Kel is coming today to help me find a dress to wear to Aunt Shel’s wedding. It could be a real hunt. I am not sure how many special occasion maternity dresses there are out there. We have a few places on our agenda today. If we do not have any luck, then I will be coming home to order one online. I think I could do well at Nordstrom.com or Picklesandicecream.com. I also saw some nice ones at Bellablu.
Aunt Shel said I can wear whatever I want, including a plain dress from Old Navy Maternity that she knows I already own. But BAGD is wearing a tuxedo. Pookie is the ring bearer and he will be wearing a little tux with a white vest and tie! And of course Geetle, the flower girl, has the prettiest tea-length cream colored princess dress. I want to look good too!
I hope we find a good one.
I could learn to be more resourceful and lower my standards a bit. It won’t kill me.

I could learn that I do not need to be afraid to get in there and involved. Most groups are welcoming, if they know that you share their interests.

I was looking through some old photos and came across this one.

I remember this day. I told Geetle to get a bowl for her goldfish crackers. She came back with this colander.
OK. I can work with that. I think its really important to let kids make their own decisions. Its hard, but you have to stop yourself from correcting their work when it really does not matter. She got to make a grown-up decision and I got a cute picture and story.
I was tagged by Jonathan today, to tell you 7 strange things about myself. Since 66% of my regular blog readers are related to me by blood or marriage, these might not be news to everyone. But here I go:
1. I was once told to leave the premises of a charity garage sale by a cop who thought I had cut in line.
2. Although I love my husband, he crowds me in bed. Therefore, when we were first married, I insisted that we push a Double size bed up next to our Queen sized bed, so that when he crowded me in the middle of the night, I could roll on to the other bed. It was the UberBed. It saved our marriage.
3. I know how to make my own homemade laundry detergent and shower soap, but BAGD won’t let me do it
4. I got a speeding ticket in my parent’s driveway when I was 21.
5. I had a pet pigeon named Homer when I was young. He did not last long, and it was probably a bad idea for both of us.
6. Once, while very-much asleep, I took the light bulb out of our bedside lamp in the middle of the night and put it in the drawer for “safe-keeping.” I did not remember doing it until the next night when BAGD asked me what was wrong with the lamp, why did it not turn on all of the sudden?
7. While most people have 7 distinct strange things about themselves, I only have six. That in itself is strange.
I’m tagging:
Did you know that Dry Erase Markers write (and erase) on mirrors?
The other night, after a shower, Pookie tried to write his name in the steam on the mirror. It did not go well, since it was a quick shower and the steam was light. But I ran down stairs for a pair of dry-erase markers. The kids each drew a few “Arthur” faces and wrote their names. They were very happy and trotted off to bed.
I am not sure if this has anything to do with it or not, but I spent about 4 hours outside in the sun yesterday. My feet itched a lot that day….but not so much today. I wonder if the sun was good for my Prurigo of Pregnancy? Vitamin D and all that. If so, I might go buy one of those sun lamps. If can be helped by Vitamin D, maybe I should be taking a supplement? I have a doctors appointment on Wednesday, so I will get the professional opinion then.
On a bad note, while the Prurigo was previously confined to my feet and calves, I got a new bump on my thigh and one on my wrist today. The tops of my feet are still pretty red and bumpy. I might have to wear socks with my fancy-schmancy shoes at Aunt Shel’s wedding next month.
For me, it was when I found myself keeping or buying odd things because “the kids will think this is funny.” Case in point:

I am a one-woman show and they are my audience. I would do just about anything to make them smile. Including buying $25 fruity punch drinks in the Cayman Islands and bringing the cheesy glasses all the way home in our luggage. I also saved the mints from our pillows and smuggled home 2 tiny boxes of Cheerios from the Cruise’s Breakfast Buffet.
I save those Publishers Clearing House-type fliers that come in the mail and let the kids open them and play with the stickers. I cut out pictures of puppies and robots from magazines and tape them on the fridge. I snuck home 2 extra party favor bags from the last wedding shower I attended. Someone reminiscing at work last week made one of those “M*A*S*H” paper games and I asked if I could take it home and show the kids.
Sure, I buy them shoes, make them take vitamins, and worry about them crossing the street. But for me, the real parent moments come at times when I least expect it.
