Saturday Zoo Trip

by beagoodmom on May 11, 2009

We took a trip to the zoo this weekend, to celebrate Mother’s Day. I really like the zoo. I think it appeals to me because I like to walk and do something while I walk. Looking at animals certainly qualifies. And its a good place for a little personal independence. The kids can wander a bit, as long as they watch out for the incredibly quiet zoo tram (natural gas burning= no engine noise).

What is it about a life size Walrus statue that makes a boy think “I gotta climb that and slide down the other side!” He was scaring the bajeebazees out of me, but he did not fall. He fell off of the Marble Lion in the previous picture. It was half fall, half dismount, but he was OK.

Last time we went to the zoo, Giggles was too young to appreciate it. This time she liked the up close animals, but still did not see the point in looking at the far away ones.

Geetle really loved the kids play zoo where you can pretend to be a monkey, do your own face paint and play animal hospital. Honestly, by the time we do all that, see the up close animals and check out the playground, we usually only see a few other animals. But, thats Ok. That’s why we have a membership.

Check out this picture of BAGD smiling. We do not get many pictures of that. He smiles alot, don’t get me wrong. But he is not one to smile for the camera. I like this one because its a laugh-smile. He was laughing at the way Giggles is chewing on his hood string.

We had a fun day. Pookie’s favorite is always the zoo tram. We keep saying that some day we will come to the zoo and just ride the tram all day. He would love that. Geetle’s favorite thing was the play zoo and its animal hospital. Giggles’ favorite thing was getting to be out of the stroller and run around a bit.

Anybody remember why the zoo hold such fond memories for us? Of course it was also one of the first places we all went as a family of 5, our first event-trip after Giggles was born. Then, of course, sometimes we go to the zoo with our cousins. And sometimes we go to the zoo in other states. Told you I liked the zoo.
