Midweek update

Hello- we got an email from Flat Geetle the other day, check out that blog post below.    We had a lot of snow on Tuesday night/Wednesday.  The kids still had school, although our peeps in WI were home on a snow day.  (wimps).  But, I wonder if we will have a day off tomorrow, since the wind chill is expected to be -15 degrees here.

While Geetle and Pookie braved the cold to attend school on Wednesday, Giggles and I holed up at home.¬† We played toy kitchen for a while.¬† She loves that.¬† She has a set of plastic vegetables that are held together with velcro, so you can “slice” them with a toy knife.¬†¬† She uses that knife pretty well, as long as we are talkinga bout plastic veggies and a plastic knife.¬† After our toy kitchen fun, we went upstairs to clean out the real pantry.¬† I cleaned, she ate.¬† Literally.¬† Everything I pulled out of the pantry, she wanted to eat.¬†¬† I think she ended up with raisins, sesame crackers and pizza goldfish.

We must have done a great job, because now we have a whole empty shelf!¬† I condensed a few boxes, organized others.¬† We did not really get rid of a lot, but some.¬† I found a giant Slim Jim in the pantry that I had bought for BAGD a while back.¬† I guess it got lost in there, and he never found it.¬† I told Giggles to give it to Daddy the next time he wandered up from the basement for coffee.¬† (he is still working at home).¬† She misunderstood and jumped right off her “helping chair” and ran over to the cat door which leads to the basement stairs.¬†¬† (cats are gone, door is not).¬† She stuck the Slim Jim thru the cat door, waved it¬† and yelled “Here Daddddeee!¬† Daddeeee!¬† Here you go!¬† Is for you!”¬† He, of course, was not anywhere near the cat door or the basement stairs, so only I got to laugh at that one.

After our cleaning, we made Sweet Potato Muffins, Chocolate Pudding and Jello Jigglers.¬†¬† When I clean the pantry, I have an undeniable urge to “cook some of it up” so I always find myself baking right after.¬† We ate the muffins for lunch and were pleased to discover (thanks to the custom recipe section of LoseIt.com on my iPod) that each muffin is only 109 calories.¬† And tasty too.

Giggles was ready for a nap early, since we had also shoveled the driveway and sidewalk that morning.¬†¬† Well, I did, while she and the big kids played and waited for the bus to come.¬†¬† While she napped, I wrapped.¬† Chrismas presents.¬† Lots of them.¬† Not done yet.¬† Whoohee.¬† I think I have about 10 more to do.¬†¬† Giggles actually woke up earlier than I expected, so I let her come into the secret wrapping zone and “help” me.¬†¬† That means she played with some toys that I hope she will forget about until 12/25.¬† Only a few of them were hers, she mostly played with the tape!

When the big kids got home from school we did a quick round of homework and then put up our tree.¬†¬†¬† This was a tricky year for us, its our first time with a real (fake) tree in a few years.¬† The last few years we just did our felt tree. But, this year we decided to do both.¬†¬† Our new real (fake) tree is almost 8 feet tall, and much bigger than I expected, so we had to find a good place for it.¬†¬†¬† Our house is pretty lived in…meaning that we have stuff everywhere and its pretty much adequately filled.¬† Finding room for a Christmas tree is always hard, right?

We decided to put our real (fake) tree in the eat-in area of our kitchen.¬† That probably sounds weird, but its sort of a cool place.¬†¬† Its a natural alcove, its in front of a window and an outlet.¬† Its got walls/counter on 3 sides so the present pile will be contained.¬† Its near the living room where we hang out, so we can see the tree at night.¬† And, we don’t eat in the eat in.¬† We made it into what we call “The Art Area” with a kids table, chairs and art cubbies.¬† We did that several years ago, so we never really think of it as part of the kitchen any more anyway.

Pookie loves to decorate Christmas trees.¬† He really started to get into it last year.¬† Not sure why.¬† But he is serious about it and his attention span is longer and more enthusiastic than you would expect from any 6 year old boy.¬†¬† He and Geetle did a great job with the tree this year….BAGD and I only had to reposition about 40% of the ornaments after they went to bed (shhhh!).¬† Giggles tried very hard to help, but the ornaments did not cooperate.¬†¬† But she did have a lot of fun asking “What that Mommee?” about every ornament I pulled out of the box.

I wonder if the big kids will be home from school tomorrow. If not, Giggles and I will have¬† to decide if we want to brave the cold to do our normal Thursday morning Mcdonalds PlayLand playdate or not.¬† I can already tell you that I am NOT taking Giggles and EE swimming tomorrow after McDonalds, like I usually do.¬† It just seems like a good day to stay in.¬† But a little trip down the street to McDonalds would be Ok, I think.¬† If there is a snow day, maybe we can all go.¬† I wonder what the morning will bring…..
