Remember how I was going to get a new car?
Remember? I told you about it in May of 2010.
Well, today we actually did it!
I got a 2009 Ford Flex. We tried the Mazda 5 again and decided it was too small. But a Ford Flex…that’s a roomy car!
It seats 7. You can get an option that only seats 6, but we decided on this version. It means the kids will have to flip up the seats to climb to the 3rd row…but they actually think that is sort of cool. With the 6 seat option, the middle row is 2 bucket seats and the kids would walk between the seats to get to the 3rd row.
Other cool features of our new car include leather seats, heated front seats, 3 sky lights and a sun roof (yes, 4!), like a dozen cup holders and cubbies, 4 power outlets and a 6 CD changer. There’s also a ton of Sirius radio/Sync stuff that we aren’t likely to use. The kids love the power outlets of course. They’re already planning who will plug their DS where. They also think the Sky lights are cool. We had some interesting discussions about how we could park in the woods, put bird seed on the roof and sit quietly to see if we could get a bird to land on the roof. The general consensus is that it would totally work…if you want to see a bird keister.
While I am SUPER EXCITED about my new car, I must just take a moment to remember my old Mazda MPV. That car was with us through a lot. We bought it in a fit of fear, after seeing how poorly a double stroller and a diaper bag fit in the back of a Chevy Cavalier. I was 8 months pregnant with Pookie and Geetle. Home on bedrest. Facing 6 months of unpaid time off and then returning to work at 50% pay. Yet somehow we decided it was a good time to buy a car. I never got to test drive it, because I couldn’t fit behind the wheel. You might not think its any fun to sit at a CarMax for hours while paperwork is signed, but its real fun when you have been on house arrest and haven’t been out for weeks.
I remember bringing baby Geetle, Pookie and Giggles home from the hospital in the MPV. I remember carting my babies around town; I had 3 car seats in there at one point. I can’t even count how many times I had to whip over to the shoulder because someone started throwing up in the back seat. And the countless Happy Meals eaten in those back 2 rows! Oh my old MPV!
I will miss you, but there is a new love in my life.

almost forgot…biggest news of the day…CarMax gave us $2000 for the MPV. It was rusting slightly and needed a new bumper and some kind of air compressor dealio. $2000 was a shocking offer. We literally took it and ran.
I was in the skeptics camp, congrats!
